Capacity building is about taking the success of an organization beyond its present and far ahead into the future. For a sustainable future, capacity building must start now. At the Consortium of Sustainable Development, we envision capacity building at various levels- project development and implementation, promotion of education, communication, and training.
If sustainable development can be envisioned as a structure built on three pillars- social well-being, economic progress, and environmental health- capacity building makes it stable and steady. It is about creating a functional network that can implement the collective goals of an organization. It is a way of expanding the work environment to teach, learn and execute programs. It is about building abilities and developing relationships and values to empower organisations and individuals to improve their performance and fulfil their developmental agenda. Many developing countries are still lagging in capacity building. It is a reality that developing, and economically backward countries will likely be the hardest hit by climate change and other disasters, and capacity building is their priority. At the CSD, we are committed to taking up this initiative through international collaboration and by developing local partnerships.
